HEART DISEASE ONLINE WEBSITE HELP

Are you new to the internet ? Feeling Dazed ? Confused ?
Not sure where to go from here ? Not sure how ?

You can stop worrying.
Here are some tips to help you browse through this
Heart Disease website.

HELP - CONTENTS

If you need further assistance, help through e-mail is just a mouse-click away - Simply Click Here

GETTING AROUND

The World Wide Web is a point-click-view thing. This applies here too, on Heart Disease Online.

Point:
What you see interests you - a catchy title, a cute picture, a useful tid-bit. Now just POINT your mouse cursor at it. If this is a LINK to a webpage, your mouse-cursor will change - maybe from an arrow into a pointing finger. The link itself may change in color, or get underlined.

Click:
Now CLICK the left-sided mouse button. After a short wait, the new webpage will show up on your computer screen. If it doesn't, please be patient. At times of heavy traffic to the site, our computers are get bogged down and slow. However, if nothing happens even after a couple of minutes - try just once again and then let us know. We'll fix the problem as soon as we can.

View:
To view content on a page, you can either use the scroll-bar (the gray line along the right side of your screen with arrows at the top and bottom) to move up and down, or use the "Page Up" and "Page Down" buttons on your keyboard.

WHERE AM I ?

In an elaborate website like this one, it's easy to get lost ! Do you have that strange "Where-am-I" feeling now ? Relax. We've made it easy for you to find your bearings.

Twice on EVERY page on this site - near the top and bottom - you'll find a section that looks similar to this:

On the left, you see three words - home, articles and NUTRITION . The one in RED CAPITALS is where you are now. The other two show you where to find other webpages or categories. If you CLICK on "articles" you will be taken to the page which lists ALL ARTICLE CATEGORIES.

Going up further, if you click on "home", you will be transferred to the Heart Disease Online homepage.

On the right, you will see one black button with a white square (named YOU ARE HERE). This button shows where you presently are i.e. ARTICLES. The other buttons, which are red with white arrows, allow you to drill down further for more details. In this example, if you click on these red buttons, you will reach the page that lists articles about "Structure", "Tests" or "Drugs".

To summarize, you are on the page indicated by the RED CAPITALS and BLACK SQUARE. The other words or red buttons carry you to different pages on the site. If you still have trouble, you can use the NAVIGATION BARS.

WHAT ARE NAVIGATION BARS ?
HOW DO I USE THEM ?

To make it moving around this website easy for visitors, we have included Navigation bars. Every page on the site has THREE such Navigation bars.

Navigation Bar 1
On the left side of your screen, you see a set of links as below.

Each of these words - "LEARN", "articles", "boards" - is a LINK to the relevant section of the heart disease site. Simply place your mouse-cursor over it and CLICK.

Navigation Bar 2
At the top of every page, you see a row of links as below.

Each of these words are also links to the appropriate section of the site. Just position your mouse-cursor over it and CLICK.

Navigation Bar 3
At the bottom of every page you'll find a toolbar you can use to get to all the major areas on the site.

So now, knowing this, it'll be a cinch to find your bearings and navigate through the Heart Disease Online site. If you still have problems, let us know - Click here.

SITE SECTIONS

At present, there are FOUR major areas on the Heart Disease Online site: LEARN, MEET, BUY and ABOUT. These areas are accessible through links on the navigation bar to your left. Each has three sub-sections. Even when you are inside one area, you can reach any of its sub-sections - or even another area directly - by using the links on the navigation bar to your left.

Some of these features ask you for personal information, such as your name, address and age, so we can provide you and other visitors personalized information tailored to specific needs - your's and their's. But don't worry. We won't use your information against you. If you'd like to learn more about our privacy policy, click here.

LEARN - Helps you learn about heart disease. There are articles written by Dr.Mani, a heart surgeon. There is a library of Net links on different topics, annotated and grouped by category. There are newsletters that you can have delivered right to your email inbox regularly.

MEET - To promote interactivity in our virtual community about Heart Disease, we offer some ways to meet, exchange thoughts and views, develop relationships. You can post messages on the Bulletin board, ask questions or narrate your experiences. Chat rooms allow you to have a real-time live conversation with other members. The groups/forums are email discussion lists where you can post messages that will be distributed automatically to every other list member by email. Forums allow you to share and discuss ideas, opinions and solutions about a number of topics concerning heart health and disease. (A note about these features: If you haven't done so already, please take a minute to read our User Agreement which includes information about posting in the Heart Disease Online forums. You should know what the agreement says because your posting constitutes an agreement to comply with it.)

BUY - Our "virtual store-front" to bring you high-quality products related to heart disease. Books on heart disease are reviewed in the Bookshop. Reports on heart disease are listed, and you can order them online. You can also take advantage of our tie-up with a major internet based drugstore to fill your prescriptions effortlessly.

  • SEARCH - Looking for a specific disease or topic ? Search for it by name or phrase using our search engine. You can look up a definition by typing a word in the search box and clicking on the "SEARCH" button. If you're not sure of a word's spelling, try typing in what you think are its first few letters. Either way, you will receive a list of terms that may contain the one you're looking for.

TECHNICAL ADVICE

Keeping in mind the needs of our audience, we have optimized our site to be viewed on a Macintosh or PC, using the Web browsers Netscape 2.0 or higher, or Internet Explorer 3.0 or higher. (If you do not have one of these Web browsers, you may visit the Netscape or Microsoft home pages to download a current version.) The site looks BEST when viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x in which the LINKS are dynamic, change color and become underlined when the mouse-cursor hovers over it.

However, this means that there is less of glitz and glamour, fewer spiffy graphics, cool sound effects and video movies ! But what we lack in style and oomph, we make up for in quality of content and interactivity.

FEEDBACK AND CRITIQUE

We at Heart Disease Online welcome comments, criticism and suggestions. It is our intention to give you, the reader, the best value for your time here and rely on your review of our performance to make future improvements.

To send us feedback, click here and enter your message in the simple form. Then click on the "Send" button. We read every single message you send us, and try our best to reply personally to each one. But sometimes we are simply swamped under the deluge of email, and throw up our hands and give up - so please forgive us if you don't hear back soon. Your ideas and suggestions, however, will be acted upon - that's a promise !
